Search engine deleted on the website

Hello,

I have a theme made by somebody and now I’m working on an online catalog, and the search engine would be very helpful. When I find some plugins and install them, nothing changes on the website. I think it is because there is no script of search engine, because we didn’t needed before and the guy probably erase it. Is there any easy way to make it work again?
