What do you mean by “activate my SEARCH button”? The Search is enabled by default in a unedited copy of Twenty eleven.

And this is exactly why we try to tell people that they should never edit the default Twenty Eleven theme. The changes you have made may well have caused the problem. I’d suggest that you re-upload a fresh copy of the Twenty Eleven theme (which will wipe out all of your changes) and then start your customisations again using a child theme.
Yes, I think you are right Esmi. I’ll probably do that. What is a child theme?
Thanks Esmi, I’ll need to do a bit more learning But I’m sure I’ll get there in the end. Just for now we can manage fine without the ‘search’ working. I’ve got loads to learn.
