    Dears,

Since three days ago, the scans do not complete anymore on my website whether it is automatic or manual and I do not understand why.
I have done some research on that topic and found some advices about that but nothing resolved it.
I have already set the memory used by wordfence to 70MB and the Maximum execution time for each scan stage to 15sec. (during the test, it says I have 80.25MB of memory available)
I have deactivated the plugin and reactivated it. I have deactivated it with the option of deletion of the wordfence database tables and then reactivated it again.
    Still, the problem remains.

Here are the results I have with the debugging mode activated.

    Scan summary:

    [Jan 31 14:06:42]
Scanning your site for the HeartBleed vulnerability
    Secure.
    [Jan 31 14:06:45]
Fetching core, theme and plugin file signatures from Wordfence
    Success.
    [Jan 31 14:06:47]
Fetching list of known malware files from Wordfence
    Success.
    [Jan 31 14:06:49]
Comparing core WordPress files against originals in repository
    [Jan 31 14:06:49]
Comparing open source themes against WordPress.org originals
    [Jan 31 14:06:49]
    Comparing plugins against WordPress.org originals
    [Jan 31 14:06:49]
    Scanning for known malware files

It keeps running and running on the last 4 steps

Here are the last 5 lines of the details of the scan
    Scan details:

    [Jan 31 14:06:49] Scanning: myfolder/wp-admin/images/arrows.png (Mem:22.2M)
    [Jan 31 14:06:49] Scanning: myfolder/wp-admin/images/browser.png (Mem:22.2M)
    [Jan 31 14:06:49] Scanning: myfolder/wp-admin/images/bubble_bg-2x.gif (Mem:22.2M)
    [Jan 31 14:06:49] Scanning: myfolder/wp-admin/images/bubble_bg.gif (Mem:22.2M)
    [Jan 31 14:06:49] Scanning: myfolder/wp-admin/images/comment-grey-bubble-2x.png (Mem:22.2M)

The number of files scanned and the last files scanned change each time I try to do a new scan but I have always that same notification : (Mem: 22.2M) and it is written at the end of each line of scanned files.

I have also found one red line which is always present in the scan details followed by these two lines

    [Jan 31 14:06:47] gzinflate(): data error (2) File: myfolder/wp-includes/class-wp-http-encoding.php Line: 58
    [Jan 31 14:06:47] Calling Wordfence API v2.20:https://noc1.wordfence.com//malwarePrefixes.bin
[Jan 31 14:06:48] Scan process ended after forking.

  • Hi,

Try excluding the files it is getting hung up on and running another scan. Also, try disabling Live Traffic and see if that helps things. That will free up some processor overhead.

    Hi Brian,
the files it is hung up on are different ones at each new scan I start.
I tried disabling Live Traffic and it changed nothing.

Also, my website host told me that they have updated cPanel at about the same time I reported the problem started for me.
I guess this is likely to be related in some way but I do not see how at all. Do you have any idea about that?

    Okay,
I found the cause of the problem.
My host updated LiteSpeed or changed from Apache to LiteSpeed and so I had the same problem as everyone else with LiteSpeed and wordfence scans.
