• Hey – I’ve got an issue on one site, and one site only with Wordfence. Its the scan which doesn’t work, eveything else is fine.

    I’m running WP 4.7.3, Wordfence 6.3.6 & php 5.6.20

    I’ve added all the rules outlined on this page and also added this:

    <IfModule mod_security.c>
    SecFilterEngine Off
    SecFilterScanPOST Off
    </IfModule>

    I’ve ticked in Diagnostics:
    Enable debugging mode (increases database load)
    Start all scans remotely

    Debug output:
    Apr 13 11:59:13] Entering start scan routine
    [Apr 13 11:59:13] Got value from wf config maxExecutionTime: 256
    [Apr 13 11:59:13] getMaxExecutionTime() returning config value: 256
    [Apr 13 11:59:13] Starting cron via proxy at URL http://noc1.wordfence.com/scanp/www.domain.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=wordfence_doScan&isFork=0&cronKey=123rty969b089b986545a8b
    [Apr 13 11:59:16] Scan process ended after forking.

    With console open I get no errors – this is the response to /admin-ajax.php
    {“ok”:1,”items”:[],”currentScanID”:””,”signatureUpdateTime”:false,”nonce”:”64ce905d76″}

    /admin-ajax.php also shows a ‘0’ if accessed directly

    Any ideas?

  • Hi,
    Do you have “memcached” configured on your server or any other object caching system?

    Also, please go to (Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics) and scroll down the page till “Send Report by Email” and send the report to “alaa [at] wordfence [dot] com”, make sure to include your forum username, I will take a look at this report and let you know my findings.

    Thanks.

    thanks – that is sent now

    I checked the diagnostics report and I suggest resetting “opcache” as I can see you have “Zend OPcache” installed, you can ask your hosting provider to do that, then run a new scan, also with a lower “Maximum execution time for each scan stage” value.

    Keep me updated,
    Thanks.

    Hey Alaa – how are you?

    Thanks for looking at this 🙂 The host has made the change and I have lowered the max exec time to 12 – but still seem to be getting the error:

    [Apr 19 09:40:25] Ajax request received to start scan.
    [Apr 19 09:40:25] Entering start scan routine
    [Apr 19 09:40:25] Got value from wf config maxExecutionTime: 12
    [Apr 19 09:40:25] getMaxExecutionTime() returning config value: 12
    [Apr 19 09:40:25] Starting cron via proxy at URL http://noc1.wordfence.com/scanp/www.domain.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=wordfence_doScan&isFork=0&cronKey=532f6be9733a9a3850c13324
    [Apr 19 09:40:27] Scan process ended after forking.

    I’ve resent a dagnostics report to you

    ok – I have made progress… but not in a good way 🙁

    I downloaded the site locally and tried to scan again – same result.

    I disabled all plugins and changed to default theme – same result 🙁

    I have no idea now, bare bones and still not working, this site only…. hmmm drawing board 🙁

    Thanks @tye for the update.

    I can see you are trying to scan using the “Start all scans remotely” option, could you please share the scan activity log when this option is disabled?

    Also, I suggest checking the server error log files when this happens, you can find these files paths at (Wordfence > Tools => Diagnostics => Log Files).

    Blocking the server IP by anyway would result in preventing the server from connecting back to itself, hence scans would fail to start, so this is something else to check, check “How do scans work internally?” for more information about how scans work.

    Thanks.
