Scaled images in post
-
Hello,
To start, I’m very new to a lot of this so my apologies if this should be something to easily search for, I tried but I’m not too sure what to search for. I’m actually not even sure if this is theme specific or not.
I’m trying to better understand how to optimize the “serve scaled images” recommendation from gtmetrix. What determines the size of the images in my posts? The full size of my photos is 1024 on the longest edge, but I’m not sure – are the images in the post based on a thumbnail, or just resized from the original size based on the theme?
I like the size they display as in the posts, but I’d like to reduce the resolution (unless you click on them to view individually) so the page loads faster since they are never (afaict) 1024 in the post.
Also, how involved would it be to change how vertical images are displayed? Maybe limit the longest edge to X pixels or something? The layout seems to be based on image width, so the portrait shots are quite large. Again, not sure if this is just general word press or theme specific.
Thanks in advance,
-Aaron
