I’m looking to start accepting payment through woocommerce on my website. Both one time payments and monthly payments.

Is there anything I need to be careful when setting up my site to make sure it’s secure and nobody’s credit card number etc. gets stolen from being entered on my site?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Most payment plugins won’t store card details on your site – for example PayPal – all the secure processing is done by them.

You are going to be storing customer names and address details etc and you will be responsible for keeping those secure! You need an SSL certificate – your hosting company wi;; be able to help with that if you can’t do it from a Cpanel account.

The most important think you can do is keep everything updated! Don’t use old, unupported plugins or themes and definitely don’t use Pro plugins/themes that have been downloaded from unofficial sites!!

A security plugin like WordFence or Shield will help too.

    +1 to what @seank123 said!

Reputable payment gateways shouldn’t be saving any credit card numbers in your site/database- they should be saving ‘tokens’ that are linked to those cards.

If you have any other questions about site security or choosing a payment gateway, don’t hesitate to ask!
