I am trying to install a Ruby theme and I keep getting an error that says “The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.”

This is the theme file’s name:

    themeforest-10776135-ruby-wordpress-theme-for-business-and-portfolio.zip

I extracted the files, and found a CSS document in Documentation > CSS named “b_doc_style.css” and I thought this was probably it.

I also just bought the theme. I had a friend who bought the same theme and her and two others had no problem installing it, so I think the file is fine. It must be a problem with my WordPress, right?

Thanks for your help with this.

Can you safely install any other theme, like Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Thirteen, or Twenty Twelve?

Yes, I already had a bunch of themes installed (Twenty Thirteen, Twenty Fourteen, Twenty Fifteen, Asteria Lite, Tempera, etc.), and I also just successfully installed Elo to test if it was something that happened recently.

When you un-zip the file, is there a file in the main folder called style.css? That’s the themes stylesheet, and if that’s not there your theme won’t install.

If that file doesn’t exist, you should re-download the themes ZIP file again and see if it’s there in the new copy as there’s a chance that the ZIP file could have been corrupted, or there’s been an update that you were “lucky” enough to get that missed out that crucial file.

If it is there, you shoudl go back to the themes author-vendor for support about this, as you’ve paid for their support as part of the cost of the theme.

No, when I unzip the file, it is named “ruby_1.1_all_files” and the folders inside are “Child-Theme”, “Documentation”, “EBook”, “Licensing”, “Plugins”, “Sample Data”; and one compressed folder named “ruby.zip”.

Problem fixed. When I was uploading the theme I was supposed to upload the “ruby.zip” file, not the whole thing. Thanks!
