• One of our users brought down the multisite network in a way we can’t seem to replicate. She had two sites /foo and /bar, and put RSS widgets that appeared on the front page of each one to try to get the feeds of the other, but neglected to include the /feed after the feed address and the logs were full of /foo /bar /foo /bar /foo /bar forever.

After restarting the server, I was able to go into the backend and delete the widgets, which fixed the problem.

However – I simply cannot replicate this issue on any of our environments. Any ideas?

  • Yes, it’s a known issue.

Pulling feeds back and forth across the network can bring it down.
Putting in her own blog address in that widget, on the same site, can bring it down.

The RSS widget is for *external* sites.

Andrea – any idea why sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t?

I really can’t recreate it myself when trying!

User error. 🙂 Could be the mix of plugins on the site too, or traffic hitting it at just the right time.
