    Hi!

We use a simple PHP / ajax script to load an RSS feed from one of our sites into a small “Upcoming Events” widget. The PHP script utilizes the simplexml_load_file call to grab the RSS feed from a different WordPress site that we manage.

For some reason, Wordfence is blocking this script and I’m receiving the “ailed to load external entity” error message.

I’ve looked at our Live Traffic feed and do not see any instances of the blocking. I’ve also tried a myriad of Allowlist combinations but with no success.

What setting do I need to update/change in order to allow this feed to work properly?

    Thanks!

  • Hi @fifthstory

    Thanks for reaching out!

We are sorry you are experiencing issues with your RSS feed.

Can you please confirm that you are clicking the “eye” once in live traffic? This will be to indicate if anything is being blocked.

What we also suggest is to enable Learning Mode on your site and see if it improves.

From the Wordfence Dashboard click on Manage WAF. Then you will see Basic Firewall Options > Web Application Firewall Status. Change the option to Learning Mode. Now perform the actions that were causing issues. This will help Wordfence learn that these actions are normal and it will allow them in the future. After you have finished performing the actions, switch the WAF from Learning Mode back to Enabled and Protecting. Now test to see if these actions work correctly.

    Thanks,

    Joshua
