I am going to assume that it is not possible as I have tried to find a way to do it. Maybe this is for a future update.

What I would like to see is an option to select emails that go to specific roles and also enable a different version of an email, E.g. Welcome email to have a different message based on their member role.

There are no role-specific emails. The plugin sends the same Account Welcome email to all new registered and approved members.

For developers: You can create custom placeholders for email templates to add specific content to your emails. Use the um_template_tags_patterns_hook and um_template_tags_replaces_hook hooks to create custom placeholders.

You can try the “UM Email Parse Shortcode” plugin
and use um_show_content with the roles parameter in your emails.
