    At some point, Admin Menu Editor lost my settings and the menu lost many items, including Plugins and Network Settings. I couldn’t even access AME settings.

    So, I deleted the plugin directory and reinstalled from the repository. When I activated, the same problems appeared.

    So, how do I reset to default settings?

    Also, I didn’t check: is AME multi-site compatible?

    I did follow the instructions to put in a mu-plugins directory, but when I did it didn’t appear at the network or individual site level, perhaps because I used the new default method for setting up multisite.

    In most cases, the easiest way to reset AME settings is to uninstall the plugin via the WordPress admin (instead of deleting the directory directly). That will delete all of its settings. Since you’ve already deleted it once, what you could do is install it without activating it and then uninstall it again. This would have the same effect.

    Yes, it supports Multisite. However, if its losing your settings, that could be a sign that there’s a database problem. If it happens again, please verify that the wp_sitemeta contains only one entry with the key ws_menu_editor. Having multiple entries with the same key could mean that the settings are corrupted.

    You were right! I believe the problem was caused by my deleting the plugin files (after moving them to the MU-plugins directory) and not having a WP delete function remove the database table.

    All working well now.

    (I would suggest removing the mu-plugins instruction in that AME worked fine with a standard network activtion.)
