The image compression is using an algorithm that should not reflect on the image quality after their compression as long as the images uploaded are with high quality.
If you are seeing any visual decrease in the image it might be caused if there is another image optimization already applied by another plugin or the template you are using.
To restore the image quality you may choose the Image compression level to None and check the box “Overwrite images with custom compression level”. If you do not see the images showing as they were initially, then you should flush your application cache from the Purge SG cache button at the top of your dashboard. You can also verify if the same image quality is visible by checking with another browser or flushing the cache of the current one.
We would love to help you further but for that purpose you should open a new Helpdesk request through your SiteGround Client Area. We can create a staging copy of the original website and test the image compression.
