It’s not on by default as most people don’t have single page websites and it doesn’t really make sense to close it on non-single page site, it’s more of a specific ability rather than general.
It’s as simple as ticking a button in the admin though so shouldn’t cause too many issues.

Ok, just to be clear, our site is not a single page site, but rather most of the links in the menu go to other pages. However, for one specific menu link we just scroll to the bottom of the existing page. Maybe that is not too common an approach though. I guess most sites have all menu links behave the same way.

Ah ok – yes even more abnormal setup but it’s fine, every website is different which is what I love!
But yeah the norm is for all site links to be the same (boring!!!)
