Requested Password change

    I have stupidly forgotten my lgin details – I clicked on reset password but have not yet had the email. How long should it take to arrive? It’s usually instant with this sort of thing, perhaps not with WordPress…

    This was only a few minutes ago but I really need to get things moving with my site so thought I’d ask here if it should be instant, if that’s the case something else must be wrong.

    It will take as long as your incoming emails normally take.

    WordPress does not control how long it takes for an email to reach you. That’s controlled by whatever email service you use.

    Usually, if someone sends me an email or I send myself one from my smartphone it will arrive instantly if that’s what you mean.

    Also when this has happened with other passwords resets on other sites, it has been instant.

    It should be instant then, right ok so there must be a problem – I have checked both my emails and it has not been recieved.

    I only have 5 messages in there and they all say the above. Oh dear

    Yes, some time ago though. I changed my domain name twice since then.

    I recently changed my domain name – the site is working, however there are a few glitches which is why I wanted to login. I thought I’d mention this incase the changeover would effect wordpress emails.

    What emails have you received previously? When was the last one sent? Have you also moved hosts or server?

    I have changed my domain name registrar when I bought the new domain. I have not moved hosts.

    Try asking your hosts if anything has changed on the server – especially anything that might relate to PHP mail() or email handling generally.
