I am trying to replace a website created with Joomla (damascusbc.com) with a WordPress site (damascusbc.com/site). The web host support is not supportive and I have made several unsuccessful attempts. I thought it was just a matter of moving (copying during trial runs) the files in the “site” folder to the “htdocs” folder (taking care to move the hidden .htaccess file as well) and then removing the Joomla files. I’m sure there is an easier method of moving/replacing the site on the same server, but it alludes me. Probably something simple that will come to mind at 3am, but I would like to be able to finish the job before then. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Have a look at this info about importing your Joomla content into WordPress using a plugin: http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#Joomla

Thank you for the information, but we no longer want the Joomla site. We created the WP site in a sub-folder in our directory (damascusbc.com/site). The Joomla site resides on damascusbc.com. I just want to move the WP site to domain and remove the Joomla site.

I have the same question. I have a Joomla website, but want to start a new site in WP located at the existing URL.

I saw Joomla and I had to check this out 🙂
I’m a joomla person myself…anyway, if I understand this right, you want to get rid of the Joomla site and move your new site done on WordPress?

If so, have you checked out this:

You will of course want to delete your Joomla site files before you put your WordPress version there. But make a backup first, just in case something goes wrong. Same thing for your new WP site.
