Replace image leaves in Unattached state
-
When replace an image, the image stays in an Unattached state. When I insert a new image and delete the old one, the new one goes into an Attached state. Am I doing something wrong?

btw, I am using WP Blog and Widget’s Blog object and not the traditional Post object.
Thanks for your question, although I am not sure that MLA is playing any part in the issue you are reporting.
You wrote “When replace an image, the image stays in an Unattached state.” I can think of several meanings for “replace an image” and I will need more details from you to determine the specific action. Can you tell me the steps you follow to “replace an image”? Are you referring to a Gutenberg “Image” or “Gallery” block, or the “Add Media…” feature of the Classic Editor, or some other action?
You mentioned “WP Blog and Widget“. Are you using this plugin:
WP Blog and Widget
By WP OnlineSupportIf so, I am not familiar with it and have not used or tested it. Your question/issue may be better addressed in their support forum.
I will leave this topic unresolved for now. If you give me more details on your issue I can investigate further. Thanks for your interest in MLA.
Thanks for your reply.
I am using classic editor to create and maintain a blog
I use the blog object from MP Blog and Widget plugin; I also use the Post object from classic WP
I insert media into the blog/post entry using Add Media button
When I want to switch out an image with a new one, I will edit the blog/post
Then I will select the image to be replaced
Then click the pencil to edit
I click the Replace button to choose a different image
I select the replacement image
I click the Replace button
The new image replaces the old one
I save/update the blog/post
I go to MLA and find the replacement image
It is still in an Unattached statusHope this helps. Let me know if you need more info.
Thanks for your update and for the details on the steps you followed to create the problem.
I have just run a quick test on my system. Here are my steps:
- I disabled all of my installed plugins except the “Classic Editor” plugin.
- I started a new post with Post/Add New
- I gave the post a Title, then clicked in the post content area and clicked the “Add Media…” button.
- I selected an unattached image and clicked “Insert into post”.
- I published the post, then went to the Media/Library admin screen and verified that the image had been attached to the new post.
- I edited the post, clicked in the image and clicked the pencil icon to edit the image.
- I clicked the “Replace” button, selected a different unattached image and clicked “Replace”.
- I updated the post, then went to the Media/Library admin screen and verified that the replacement image was still unattached.
As a second test, I disabled the Classic Editor plugin and repeated the above steps using a “Classic” block in the Gutenberg editor. I got the same results.
As you can see, the problem you reported is caused by WordPress core behavior and MLA plays no role in it. I do not believe the WP Blog and Widget plugin has any effect on the problem either. You can try reporting this problem to the WordPress team, but I doubt they will act on it.
I am marking this topic resolved simply because MLA does not seem to be involved. I regret the news is not better, but I hope you can live with manually changing the “Uploaded to” status of the images when you perform replacements in the body of a post. Thanks for your interest in MLA.
