Replace home blog with static page possible?

WordPress reading settings are set to use a custom static page instead of latest posts but it still only displays the latest blog, is it possible to use a static page in its place? Site is already using a child theme, I know I can easy remove the home blog from front-page.php but was hoping I could use a static page to replace it, I still want to keep things like the slider and services on the homepage, I just want to display a static page beneath where home blog currently is.
