I have a trail information website & used to use a Google Weather plugin to show people the weather forecast for each trail area. Now since the Google weather plugin is no longer supported/available, I’d like to replace it, but I’m not sure what would be appropriate. I am, by no means, an expert at WordPress, coding or anything else that is overly technical.

    A. Would Alfie WP Weather make a good replacement?
    B. Could I use it in the sidebar of each trail page/description & customize the weather for each trail page/location?
    C. The person who set up the trails portion of my website had it set up so that when I (or anyone else who added a trail description) added the town & state to a trail description, that was automatically entered into the Google weather code. Is that possible w/ Alfie WP Weather? (The person who set up my website no longer has an office nearby.)

If it would help you to understand what I’m talking about, the website in question is http://www.trailsnet.com. There’s a “Trails” pull down menu that allows you to choose a trail by state. Please take a look at the sidebar of any of the trail pages to get an idea of where the weather plugin used to be located.

    Thanks for any help/suggestions!!

    Hi,

We believe our plugin does a pretty good job for what it was designed, so, to answer your questions:

    A. Sure
    B. Yes
    C. Alfie WP Weather comes with a built-in location search, so its usage is pretty straight forward, just click on “Click to search location” blue button, start typing and you’re good to go.

If you encounter any issues, we’ll be happy to help.

    Thanks appcuarium,

Now if only I can figure out how to install it so that it only shows up in the trail sidebars.

Depending on the logic used for displaying the current weather widgets, you have to replace each reference with the Alfie WP Weather widget. For more info, you can check this documentation:

    Hi there,

Have you managed to replace the Google Weather widgets?

The latest update allows you to insert the weather info also through a shortcode. You should be able now to replace the old Google Weather plugin with Alfie WP Weather by using the widget or the shortcode.

For example: -> Here, on the right sidebar you can see the following shortcode:

    [wp_google_weather city=”Piedmont, AL” temperature=”f” language=”en” forecast=”1″]

    Replace it with [alfie_wp_weather woeid=”2471577″ units=”f”]

A fast way to obtain the WOEID code for each city is to drop an Alfie WP Widget into a sidebar in your admin zone and use it as a search engine.

Hope you can get it done. Marking this as resolved.
