Removing posts from the Uncategorized category

    There must be an easy way to do this, all I need to do is deselect a post from the uncategorized category.
    By accident I have posted some posts with the default category set to uncategorized. Now I want to move them but although I can put them in a new category I cannot take them out of uncategorized.
    I have renamed uncategorized to something else, but that didn’t help. I have autogenerated menu’s so they display an category with published posts, not helpful! I have 3 sites that do this and it’s driving me crazy.

    Edit the post and remove and deselect category Uncategorized…

    It does not work, after the update to post it’s back in uncategorized, as if by magic!

    OK some more info here, this only happens with posts first created when the default category was set to uncategorized, other posts you can put in and take out of the uncategorized category.

    So far my only hope is to recreate the post, but it’s already out there in the wild, tweeted, googled etc etc!
