I am following instructions created by my hosting provider for installing WordPress. These instructions may be dated.

    They state:

Once the installation is complete, you’ll probably be warned to remove the installation directories, which is a good idea for security purposes. Newer software versions may actually prevent you from logging in until you have done so.

I ran the install. It was a complete success. Kudos to WP!

I was not asked to remove installation directories. Anyone know if Version 3.6 does this automatically?

  • I may be misunderstanding the issue but I don’t think WP 3.6 leaves any unnecessary directories around after an install.

    It doesn’t.

OK, then the site is safe.

I shall notify my hosting provider that their website is incorrect, pointing to this page. Do either of you know which version of WP successfully did the cleanup to make the site safe so that my hosting provider can change their directions to read:

If you are installing a version of WordPress version 2.5.1 or greater, it is not necessary to remove any installation directories, as WordPress will have all ready done that for you.

WordPress has never left anything behind post-install.

I have informed my hosting company of this fact. They were very thankful. They will rewrite their website.

This issue is solved and thanks, Esmi.

    No problem 🙂
