• Hello:

I am trying to hide pages from top nav. Here are the problems I’ve encountered so far in trying to hide them:

editing code in header.php to exclude pages hasn’t worked because the theme I am using has “dp_list_pages” instead of the more common “wp-list-pages”.

Many people have tried to hide pages from the top nav. Excluding pages has thus far not worked. I also tried to order pages using plugins such as “Page Mash” and “My Page Order” to no avail. I also tried designating certain pages as “private” so as to hide them from top nav, but then the pages are not viewable even as you type in the URL or give hyperlinks to them.
I also tried “exclude pages” plugin but it didn’t work either.
Anybody with suggestions or troubleshooting is greatly appreciated.

  • I know it’s too late for you now, but I thought I’d post this for anyone else for is looking for a solution to hide pages from the top menu.

Did you know you can write and save a page as a ‘Draft’ and it will function as a normal page, including showing up in searches and if you type in the URL? But it WON’T show up in your top menu. Yay!

I learnt this at http://www.techcounter.com/wordpress/how-to-hide-pages-in-wordpress/ so go there if you’d like more information. 🙂

I just wanted to thank you guys for all your great work and that it has helped someone. 🙂

But I have to say @georgiamarie, that that little gem takes the cake 🙂

    It solved my quandry perfectly.

And for anyone who follows, in case this helps you too, I’m using WMPU 2.9.2 with BuddyPress 1.2.3, BP Scholar Theme 2.1.7. The quandry was specific to a Plugin called Global Site Tags. It’s a great plugin, and it works perfectly…a bit too perfectly 🙂 It puts a ‘Tags’ page in the top Nav Menu. I wanted the page but not the Nav Menu link. Owing to the global operation of the plugin, I was hoping to find a solution that didn’t actually mess too much with the code…this solution fits the bill. 🙂

I still have the Tag Cloud Widget that came with the plugin. It’s set to show the most recent 25 tags. Next to that I used a Text Widget to point to the hidden page which shows the entire Global Site Tag Cloud. Excellent 🙂

    Many thanks

Oh Crap! Spoke too soon…kinda 😛

It works great as long as I’m logged in. Unfortunately that means unregistered users can’t access either the categories list or the Tag Cloud Page…which is effectively the same result as if the page is set to ‘Private’.

Nevertheless, well worth knowing…thanks again guys 🙂

    Cheers

Ok! I went back and installed this plugin that I found earlier – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/exclude-pages/. And this time, before I got all excited, I did the good ol’ ‘log-out’ test 🙂

    It worked…so far so good.

I hear tell that the developers are talking about an ‘exclude page’ option that might be built in to WP 3.0. That would be good – http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/11539

    Cheers
