You can probably just modify the CSS. Find the class for each item and in the CSS, add ‘display: none;’.
If that doesn’t work you might need to modify some theme files, but not the core.

Firefox css shows the class/id to be #footer but as you can see below that div is commented out in the theme package I’m using.

Should I create another #footer id with the display:none code to make this work? This blog is now live and I don’t want to mess it up by experiementing.

Are you using Firebug with FF? If so, you can play around with the CSS without making changes to the hard-copy.
The only thing commented out in the sample you showed is the background, not the content. Go ahead and add the display: none; right there.
