Re-installing Child Theme Configurator

Hi

I uninstalled Child Theme Configurator after making the changes I wanted. I realized that I need to reinstall Child Theme again to remove all http requests and convert them to https because of many mix content warning errors. I have to remove these errors in order to correctly setup my SSL Cert.

After I re-install Child Theme Configurator, can I ‘pick-up where I left off’ and copy the files I want in order to remove all of the http requests?

You can reactivate CTC at any time; however, you must reconfigure your child theme using the steps for “configure an existing child theme” under the parent-child tab. Otherwise CTC will overwrite your existing styles.

As for the change in protocol: theme templates should not be using “hard-wired” URLs. They should be using WordPress functions designed for this purpose so that the scenario you are describing is handled automatically.

Thanks for your response and insight.

I will follow as described.

Since my theme template does not follow protocol, is it recommended to manually go in and “hard-wire” URLs to use https? The only way I know is to use CTC to create copies of pages that need updating and then manually update to https. I would like to resolve this ASAP. Do you think it’s okay to do it this way?

It is okay to do it if necessary, I was just pointing out that WordPress is designed to handle it automatically.

Whenever possible, try to keep the code “domain agnostic,” e.g., if the website changes domain or protocol, the entire code base does not have to be updated.
