• Hi,

My wp site is borken after I tried to remove some hacks/malvare. I probably deleted q filen wp needs to run. So now i can not access the wp admin or site. @

I am trying to figure out how to fix the broken wp core. WITHOUT loosing the pages, data etc. Is it correct that overwriting every file with a new fresh wp installement except the wp-content I am good to go?

I cannot risk to delete my content.

    Thanks.

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Thanks for your quick reply:)

Just because I am paranoid, are you absolutely officially positive that this wil NOT delete my content:)?

do a backup of your content in case something goes wrong. But what James is telling you should work without deleting any of your content.

Just an update. I reinstalled al files except wp-content.php and the config file.

Site still broken. Got some help from the webhost id that some code was commented out in the config file. Site back up. Now the job with preventing new hacks goes on

For that, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.
