First of all, let me say that I am very glad with the Foyer plugin, it’s working fine so far.
Currently I’m working on a presentation for a football club, which should be shown during a match.
I have a question (or two) in regard to the refresh time, which is 5 minutes, as far as I know. The reason behind this is that I want to display static contents as well as dynamic contents. The latter consists of webpages which are updated in sometimes short intervals (latest results) and I’m also planning a slide containing latest informations (e. g. the goals in the current match) which is therefore subject to constant changes in relatively short time.
My first question is therefore, will websites also be updated in the show every 5 minutes and second, would it be possible to change the 5 minute interval to a shorter time period? It wouldn’t be a problem for me to go into the source code (if this is possible) and make the necessary change myself, perhaps you can advise me where I should look?
Thanks for reading and I’d be glad for every feedback!

Hi @mh137, great to hear you are building with Foyer!

You are right about the 5 minutes interval. After these 5 minutes any External web page slides will reload the external page, so you should see the latest content.

There is no setting to change the 5 minutes to 1 minute for example. If you plan on building a web page (shown on a External web page slide) that contains information that is about to change any second, then I think the best approach is to have that web page refresh its own contents (eg. the goals) when needed! Instead of having Foyer reload all slides every minute (which is still quite a delay when it comes to goals). Is a self-updating page something you could build or have built?

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Menno,

thanks for your reply. It’s great you’re back in this forum.

Your suggestion would be an option if the external website I want to show were created by myself, unfortunately, this is not the case. The site is not my own so I have no control over it (in fact, it’s the german site fussball.de).
I’m aware that a refresh in a 1 minute interval would cause a heavy load and unnecessary delay. I rather thought about a 2 or 3 minute interval. But nevertheless, the 5 minutes will have to do. Perhaps it will cause the people to stand a bit longer watching the screen… which wouldn’t be bad either.

Thanks again and have a nice day!

Hi Martin, I understand.. Sorry there is no way to change the refresh time. Good luck with your project!

I have a related question about the refresh. The FAQ says “Each digital sign tries to contact your website every 5 minutes to see if you made any changes.

My question is: what constitutes a change? For example I have a Post slide with a shortcode that presents content that can change every five minutes. The Post itself doesn’t change, but the content displayed does. Will Foyer notice the changed content? If not, how can I get it to reload the Post itself every 5 minutes?

    Thanks.

(BTW, searching in this forum for “refresh” didn’t turn up this thread! Something seems to be wrong with the WordPress.org search engine.)

Also, I didn’t see any wp-cron jobs set up by Foyer when I installed it. How does the scheduled check for changes work?

OK, I’ll answer my own questions: Yes, Foyer reloads the post every 5 minutes and instead of wp-cron, it’s javascript doing the reloading every 5 minutes. Thanks for writing this plugin. It’s very handy.

Hi @rtoads, thanks! And yes, your last comment is correct 🙂 Displays reload all slides HTML every 5 minutes using Javascript so any changes should be picked up even when the slide or linked post itself was not edited within WordPress.
