Reduce line height in main nav?

    Is there a way to reduce the line height in the main navbar? I am using

    #mainnav .sub-menu a {
   font-size: 14px;
   line-height: .9;
}

    That works for changing the font size, but it doesn’t change the line height. Please advise.
