Hi. Apologies, I’m new to WordPress so this is probably a really daft question – plus I don’t know the technical words for the problem I’m having.

    I own the domain dwhsociety.co.uk
I’ve build a site at [Moderated: Redundant link removed.]

I use awardspace as host. I’ve set up a redirect within AWardspace to redirect from the domain to the subdomain in the usual way that I would have done using a Joomla site.

However, when I now go to dwhsociety.co.uk it bounces me on to the subdomain, which shows in the browser address bar as http://wpmar2021.dwhsociety.co.uk/ and all pages (eg About Us) show the subdomain in the browser address bar (http://wpmar2021.dwhsociety.co.uk/about-us/).

But I want the browser address bar to show the address for the site as http://dwhsociety.co.uk and pages to show as
    http://dwhsociety.co.uk/about-us

I’m guessing I need to change something in the General Settings – either the wordpress address or the site address – but I’m nervous about fiddling with these unless someone tells me that its safe to do so. I tried changing the Site Address recently from http://wpmar2021.dwhsociety.co.uk/ to http://dwhsociety.co.uk/ but it seemed to affect all urls and I couldn’t then log in to the admin area, so had to entirely rebuild the site again.

Please can someone help? Love WordPress, far more stable than Joomla.

  • If I understand you corrctly:

    • You have the domain example.com
    • You’ve setup your site at subdomain.example.com
    • You’ve forwarded example.com to subdomain.example.com
    • And now you want your page URLs to be at example.com/, example.com/about, etc

Why the unnecessary complication and redirects? Any reason why you simply can’t set up your site at example.com and completely avoid the sub-domain and redirects? What am I missing?

If you need help to change your site’s URL from subdomain.example.com to example.com, please see:
