Redirect logged in users to wp-admin

I searched but could not find a specific answer for my question. When my users are logged in and they revisit the wp-login.php page (they have it bookmarked and sometimes click the bookmark if they closed their browser window by mistake), they are presented with the login page instead of seeing the wp-admin page. They try to log in again (thinking they need to) and get a “password is empty error”. Is this default behavior for logged in users if they revisit wp-login.php while already logged in? Is there a way to redirect them to the wp-admin page instead? Thanks!

I think the problem is in fact that user doesn’t use Remember me checkbox. So when the seesion is over browser forgets about this user.

First of all try if checking “remember me” solves the problem. If so – maybe try plugin used here – http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-keep-wordpress-from-forgetting-you-with-always-remember-me/

Thanks for your reply. The thing is, my users experiencing this issue already have the Remember Me checkbox checked. I can tell that the browser thinks they are still logged in because if they have visited the login link (while logged in) and then immediately try visiting wp-admin.php, they can see the dashboard like logged in users are able to.

If I’m logged in, leaving my browser open and then visit wp-login.php, I can replicate the same behavior. It “looks” like I’m not logged in but then I can manually go to wp-admin.php and see the dashboard.

You’re right – I’ve always used /wp-admin and never even noticed that wp-login.php works this way.

Me too. I’m not sure why we just started noticing this. Your provided solution seemed to take care of it. Logged in users are now redirected to wp-admin.php if they visit the login page while logged in. Thanks!!
