Redirect issue & front page

Hello all,

I’m having a problem I can’t figure out and it might be some arcane setting in wordpress that I’m missing and I’m hoping the community can help.

The result I’m looking for is a static front page to load when the site is called with nothing appended to the URL Ex.

http://somesite.org/ << the static front-page renders and does not redirect to:

http://somesite.org/home/

– I’ve disabled all the plugins by renaming the plugins folder to plugins.hold,
– Settings > Reading “static front page pointing to ‘Home’
– Settings > Permalinks set to %postname%

There seems to be a redirect… somewhere?! Could anyone please offer some insight?
