Recommended host?

Hi

I need advice on which host to choose for my site. I currently use 5quid host and have not been for long and the performance on my site is poor. I used to use go daddy and I have to honest I had no issue with speed or resource limits being hit what so ever but since using these its gone down hill.

My friend built the site and he recommended 5quid and he tells me the reason we changed and cant go back to go daddy is because they do not support certain themes or plug ins. I need to find a fix for this as I can not keep my site running like it is and he doesnt seem to be able to want to help out.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
