• Hello

I have been using WordPress happily for some years now. Recently however a number of issues have come to light and I am trying to determine if they’re WordPress related or site hosting related.

    1. My WordPress Blog is hosted at http://www.lipcrack.com/blog It is not run under the https that is on the rest of the site.

What I recently noticed when running some checks in the stats area of the WordPress Blog is that they are picking up a location for the site which to my knowledge does not exist.
    That address is http://www.lipcrack.com/blog/?/blog.
Is this some programers little “inhouse joke” or is that something more serious I should be considering.

The reason I ask is :

    2. Issues have come up with my hosting company and to some extent some of the way’s it was initially constructed in terms of file system and mail.
It has recently come to my attention that update mails are not being sent to when updates occur. In the process of taking a look at what the problem is I noticed that WordPress is creating tmp files on my server host with details of the new sign up names. I’m not sure why that has recently started occurring. Is that a recent upgrade of some description constructed by programmers or is it a more serious issue with my hosting company ?
The other reason why I suggest this is because along with noticing that those files are being created it’s also come to my attention that updates are not being mailed to my mailing list.

I would like to know how all these “problems” can be resolved.

At the same time I am also concerned because I no longer have control over when the WordPress updates because to some extent occasionally it’s telling me “it’s done it itself”.

  • What plugin are you using for Stats? (No in house jokes that I know of.)

Yes, WP auto updates for minor and security releases – info here:

If you are not receiving emails, perhaps check with your hosting that your email is set up correctly or use an SMTP plugin –

I’m using Version 0.9.7 which was recently updated.

The situation in relation to the site hosting and the constant problems which don’t come from my end but occur e.g. When WordPress was update or when the new security certificate was installed.

I started having problems with them about 6 months ago and in fact went to a private third party mail service. However the issues extend now to the functionality and running of my business which at this stage they’ve made it clear they’re interested in taking money for hosting but when it comes to the functionality working so as to bring in income for my business “what ever can go wrong is” conveniently from their end.

There should be no issues with running the mail outs from WordPress via the hosting service and if there are issues I would like to establish why. eg. why isn’t the blog and mysql working in conjunction with each other and why are new sign up mail out’s details appearing as tmp files on the server.

And again I am very concerned about this “additional” folder situation currently appearing via the stats page in terms of the folder structure of the WordPress Blog. I would like some information in relation to that ASAP.

I’m using Version 0.9.7 which was recently updated.

Of what plugin? If you have questions about a plugin, you’ll need to ask on that plugin’s own forum.

when the new security certificate was installed.

    Who installed that and where?

Many servers/hosting DO have mail issues – so either try that plugin or talk to the hosting. WP cannot send mail if the server/host is blocking it. I see your site is on HostGator and I’ve seen several people with mail issues there recently.

Your site does not appear to be hacked – if that is your concern –

Well thank you for getting back to me I will contact the stats plugin developer running version 0.9.7. I thought I made that fairly clear when I responded to your request for further information.

In regards to your other questions I don’t believe at this stage it’s relevant to the questions posed of your service.
I am currently in consultation with the hosting company again in relation to the mail issues and determining if they have “blocked” anything.

In relation to my unanswered question I will ask it again perhaps differently so that you can answer it.

I noticed that WordPress is creating tmp files on my server host with details of the new sign up names. I’m not sure why that has recently started occurring. Is that a recent upgrade of some description constructed by programmers or is it a more serious issue with my hosting company ?

In particular the files are being created in the mail directory where my other mail accounts are in a folder titled NEW and a file called tmp where it is storing account sign up data.
Is that some new fuction or is this a more serious issue in relation to the functions that WP used to perform with no issues.

    Hello

If this inquiry in relation to WordPress cannot be answered in this forum can I suggest that you move it to a forum where it won’t just sit or be disregarded after a period of time.

Your efforts in resolving this matter quickly and as soon as possible will be more appropriate than potential legal redress.

That’s not how these 100% staffed by volunteers working on their own free time works. You have to be patient and wait for someone to help you.

If this level of support is not working for you (and sometimes that is the case) then please consider hiring someone. http://jobs.wordpress.net/

WordPress does not do that. It may be caused by that an add-on to your installation. Or your site is hacked, those temp files should not be created like that.

Well that is your issue to deal with in relation to payment for services rendered.

As a person utilizing the service in a commercial sense the fact that it was considered for inclusion into my site took considerable thought.
I do not have to go on about my experiences with web companies and those people developing products for the web.

WordPress despite being an organization is still a commercial entity.
So please spare me the “volunteer” bleeding arm hype.

I have a great deal of patience which extends itself to business groups that run ethically the moment those ethics are put into a category where legalities of fault lay on the behalf of a business that costs me and my subscribers who can earn income from selling my MP3’s by subscription to my Blog is put in question my patience does not extend itself.

I do not need to hire anyone from WordPress what I can do is investigate the reason why something that was working is no longer working and either get it resolved or persue legal action against the entities involved including the hosting company.

While I have downloaded apps for WordPress I’ve kept it to a bare minimum because I am aware of the issues that will/would arise from installing too many. It is bare bones and connects to the database server. e.g. has typeface and stats only apps.

So again I will pose the question does WordPress install any files to any other directory other than the folder it’s installed to. I know that the SQL gathers the sign up data however the current version of WordPress has somehow installed files into other directory’s. So once again I would like confirmation as to if it does or does or doesn’t do this and if it does when would it be likely to do it. .e.g if the SQL was not available at the time of sign up would it create a tmp space for the data ?

Also in relation to that matter under what conditions would the sign up data not be registered in the MYSQL but be created on the server.
Could that be done by a redirection of some kind?

PS I am currently trying to establish how long to continue my association with utilzing WordPress if there is going to be constant problems my site works fine without it.

Nope. I am sorry, but you’re 100% wrong there.

WordPress.ORG and the WordPress opensource software project is not a commercial entity. Yes, many do make a living with WordPress but most here do not. Such as myself, my professional role has nothing to do with WordPress.

If you wish to receive free volunteer driven support here then please remember that and refrain from comments such as “bleeding arm hype”.

    Back to your specific problem:

So again I will pose the question does WordPress install any files to any other directory other than the folder it’s installed to.

I can confirm that: WordPress does not install any files to any other directory other than the folder it is installed in.

I do not need to hire anyone from WordPress what I can do is investigate the reason why something that was working is no longer working and either get it resolved

No one has asked you to hire anyone from WordPress. That http://jobs.wordpress.net/ is a community job board. No one there works for WordPress.

or persue legal action against the entities involved including the hosting company.

I’m now closing this topic as is the norm when someone ventures into “legal action” comments.

I sincerely hope you determine what is going on with your installation and I would like you to decide to remain with WordPress. But if you do seek additional help here then please be considerate of the other volunteers.
