• I ran updraft migrator to clone a website. When it finished I was logged out of the admin console. Now when I try to login, the recaptcha box displays “ERROR for site owner:
Invalid domain for site key” and I am unable to access my site. I registered the domain at https://www.google.com/recaptcha/admin but I cant figure out how or where to apple the site key and secret key. Appreciate any help anyone can offer.

  • In captcha admin, find the old key pairs entry and edit it then add your new domain as the valid domain in that. then wait a few mins then you will be able to log in again with no captcha error.

If you don’t remember or have access to old key pairs. Then using FTP or File Manager you’ll have to disable the captcha plugin. you can disable the plugin by renaming it.

If the plugin name is my-plugin then renamed it to my-plugin-backup it will be disabled automatically. then you can log in to your website then restore the plugin name again by renaming it. then you can go back to plugins in the WP backend and activate the plugin again. then add the new captcha keys

Thanks for the quick response. If I’m interpreting this correctly, I should add this new domain to the list of domains associated with the previous key? Was I incorrect in trying to register a new site?

Yes, you should add the new domain in the previous key.
Registering a new key for a new domain is not incorrect but that will not allow accessing the wp-admin because the plugin is already activated and the captcha is only valid for the previous domain.

If you wish to use new keys then you must add a new domain to previous keys to regain the admin access so that you can change the keys.
