I just uploaded WP 2.7.1 on my server & noticed there are a few errors in the dashboard. For example, when I go to ‘Add a New Post’ the screen that comes up does not allow me to swtich between Visual & HMTL versions of my post, nor does it allow me to manipulate text as it did in the older version (IE: Add links, center text, insert photo, etc). I’m not sure what is wrong.

    Here is what happen:

I was running an older version of WP & tried the upgrade but there were some errors. Finally I opted to remove the old files & do a full install of WP 2.7.1 on my server. Since I had only added 1 theme & a few plug ins to my old WP I didn’t think it would be a huge issues. The new version of WP was uploaded to my server and then I added my theme, plug ins & posts content into the appropriate folders. Then I went to the admin page on my website. When I logged in, I was promoted to upgrade.

I’ve checked out the other features & they all seem to be fine, it’s just the Posting section that is out of whack. Anyone have suggestions for me? Should I go back & try to upgrade rather than a full re-install? (I did try this several times & wasted a lot of time with no progress – I would like to not have to go back down that road if possible but everything is back up). Is this just a bug in the version I downloaded? Any help is much appreciated!

Here’s a link to the screen grab of what I am talking about:

P.S. When I say I was promoted to ‘Upgrade’ it was for my server database.

Again, everything else seems to be working fine, just the posts section is wrong.

Make sure that you have all the javascript files loaded onto your server. You may have missed some when you upgraded.

    Also clear your browser cache.

I did clear my browser cache & nada.

Where are the javascript files? Is this something I would want to transfer over from my old version of WP or is there a certain place I can find it?

    Thanks for the help.

I looked at my “JS” folder under WP-Includes – I hope that’s what you mean by Java Script. Most of the folder are empty – not sure what’s up with that ….

I’ve re-imported my old JS files in the mean time, and then dropped in any files that were new. Now I can edit somewhat, but it’s still not the same. Can’t switch between views of Visual & HTM and still don’t have editing functions like insert a photo.

Here’s an updated screen grab. I am wondering if I downloaded a bad version of WP & I should just re-download another one from somewhere else. Any ideas are welcomed. πŸ™‚

I don’t know what “empty” folders you’re talking about, but I suggest getting a fresh copy of WordPress and reuploading ALL the files to your site.

I downloaded the copy this morning & it looks like other people are having the same issue …

I also tried to download the 2.7 version, but still had the same issue.

The “JS folder” under WP-Includes has subfolders to it, but none of them have nearly as many documents as my old “JS” folder ….

Is there any other place that would have a safe copy of WP? I am thinking it’s just a ton of bugs or someone has tampered the file?

    Hey Otto-

Thanks again for your help. I looked at my zipped file & compared it to the extracted & there are definitely files missing. I tried manually to extract it, but my PC said there was an error in copying.

I tired downloading another version, it still has the same issue with extraction. Any clues or hints?

I am going through this thread right now, but like i said it seems to be an extraction issue.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES! I think I solved my issue. For some reason my computer was not extracting all the files from the WP zip file. I simply uploaded those on to a flash drive & used another computer to extract & upload. Looks like the issues is resolved. Maybe an anit-virus software issue? Thanks again!
