Did you ftp or use the ‘Add New’?
Are the polaris themes files in the right folder at the top level.
Is the folder name well formed (like a slug) with no spaces or periods, EG: wp-content/themes/polaris_v10/ then all theme files in this folder?
FTP General Notes:
When we unzip from file, or already in some theme zips there are sometimes two levels of folders, if using FTP we need to transfer only the inner folder with the files so we may have: Polaris_v1.0/polaris/
Polaris_v1.0 is the zip name and top level folder, with the theme in a sub-folder /polaris/ inside the zip, that will upload great from ‘Add New’.
For FTP we would un-zip and upload only the inner /polaris/ Folder and Files to the themes directory.

OK, I deleted the folder on my server and then just transferred the inner “polaris” folder as you advise, thanx. I wonder why the authors make themes with so many levels?? That is confusing for an intermediate like myself…LOL
Soooo, at the moment I am ready to return to my site and see whether this theme will correctly install. It may or may not be suitable for my needs, but I think it looks lovely and might be useable either on my current site or a whole new one….
I don’t mind making “mistakes” like this, it always turns into a learning experience, which is a good thing. 🙂
Great,
If it is ok then mark this topic as ‘resolved’, WordPress is a great learning curve.

Oh, yes it did install perfectly once I chose the inner folder and just ftp’d that one. However….as lovely as it is, I’m lost over exactly how to make it behave for me… Hmmm and Hmmm… I’ve always had trouble with custom menus, grrr.
