Hello. It’s me again 🙂

I was testing things out and everything seems to be working. Upon closer look, it seems redirection is making SSL happen.

What I mean is…

I noticed that Google is still presenting my URLs as http:// and then users instantly get redirected to the https:// version.

Is that normal? I guess Google needs plenty of time to re-index?

But how does redirection work after Google eventually indexes the secure (SSL) URLS? Wouldn’t it be unnecessary at the point? Curious person here! Thanks!

Hi,

after moving to SSL you have to make some small changes to your Google setup, see https://really-simple-ssl.com/knowledge-base/how-to-setup-google-analytics-and-google-search-consolewebmaster-tools/. Once these changes have been made, Google will soon start indexing the https:// version of your site. Once Google has indexed the https:// url’s, the redirect will indeed be obsolete for traffic coming from Google. We recommend to leave the redirect option enabled, if other sites link to your site using an http:// link, the redirect still needs to be done.
