• Hi all, I would really appreciate some help here as I’m fairly new to using Woocommerce.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to have certain variations for certain products but not others?

For example, I’m trying to set up a product which is a course you can attend. The courses are run in various locations on different dates i.e. Cambridge on the 9th August & Harpenden on the 10th August & Leeds on the 25th July. Is it possible, and if so what is the best way to do this?

Currently, it’s showing all the possible dates as options when I select the different Variations from locations.

I will very much appreciate any help on this.

    Thanks in advance.

  • How many variations are there altogether?

There would be 7 dates and 4 locations. 1 location is available for 4 of the dates and the other 3 locations are only available on 1 of each remaining date.

So in the product edit page, Product Data section, Variations tab, did you click “create all variations” which would make 28, or did you make them individually, which would make 7 variations?

What you have explained usually happens if there are more than 20 variations. Please could you post the url of the page.

I did them individually to make 7.
You can see the product here which I’m using to test. It’s currently set up with two variations. http://www.d2d-works.uk/Musicale/shop/holidays/instrumental-courses/

If you need anymore info, please let me know.

I’ve had a look at your test product. The styling is a bit off in that the select box shrinks when an option is not available, but I think that’s a side problem. The page works more or less how it is supposed to work. I don’t think you have a bug. What you could do is temporarily load up the Storefront theme, this is a WooCommerce theme. You will see slightly better behaviour for this test product. You will also see a useful “clear selection” option, so you can start over. However this is missing from your theme’s template. But basically its not brilliant.

I think what I would do is scrap the current attributes and variations. Instead have just 1 attribute. This would be the course details, and each term would contain both location and date. eg:
Course details: Cambridge on 14th August | Caterham on 19th August | London on 25th August | etc
Then what you will get is just the one dropdown showing the available options.

Thanks Iorro. That’s they way I was thinking I’d have to do it. Shame it’s not possible with the current system to allow it to work the way I need.

Anyway, thanks very much for your help.
