Hello @fallback2,
Thanks for reaching out.
Using Yoast SEO (or Yoast SEO Premium) does not guarantee high rankings and traffic for your site because Google Rankings depend on a lot of different factors. Issues that determine rankings include server load, page speed, cache configuration, mobile versions, responsiveness, the site’s content, all of which fall outside of the plugin’s scope.
Having said that, in order to get more organic traffic and higher rankings in the search results, the main thing is to optimize your content. Please refer to this definitive guide and consider the following:
- Have you submitted your website to the Google search console? If not, please submit your website to the Google search console first by following the steps given in this guide.
- Have you submitted the sitemap to the Google search console? If not, please submit your sitemap to your Google search console by following the steps given in this guide.
- Optimize your content against the focus keyphrases by following this guide.
- Write the perfect SEO title for your posts and pages by following the steps given in this guide.
- Write clean and meaningful meta description of your pages and posts by following the steps given in this guide.
- Optimize the content by using the advanced content analysis feature provided by the Yoast SEO plugin by following the steps given in this guide.
If you’re looking for SEO advice tailored to your website, we strongly recommend you to find a local SEO consultancy company via Google. The good ones should rank first.
That is a surprisingly unhelpful and random response.
Let’s try again.
I tried to add category in your SEO Title – in fact, I changed it by hand on each post, to add a cartoon category – but forgot to change it in the WP Settings! I don’t think you include this in your directions.
What do you advise? Should I do a 301 on each post, and then change General Settings to Post-category-title, as I did your SEO title block?
The problem started using your app to change the Meta Title. Now I have less than one visit a day. Connected? Who knows. But at this point, Google is stripping out the category (from your SEO title) so something is wrong.
Hi @fallback2
We understand you’ve tried to add the %%category%% snippet variable to the SEO title of your posts.
Now you’ve mentioned that you forgot to change it in the WP settings. When you say change in the WP settings, could you provide us with a screenshot (you can use snipboard.io or any other website where you can upload a screenshot and share a link) and more details of exactly what you are trying to change in the General settings?
Do you mean changing the permalink structure of your posts to include the category in the permalinks?
While having a good permalink structure is important, we can’t say as to whether implementing that will then directly lead to better rankings and traffic on your site. But should you want to change the permalink structure on your website, we have some articles that should be of help:
