Problem with adding new users to a sub site

    Something I’ve noticed that started happening a few months ago on our multisite network.

    When an administrator of any child site (sub site) on the network adds a new user, it adds them as a subscriber to the main site (site 1). Is this supposed to happen? and can I turn it off?

    Also, probably a related issue, when the person adding the user, selects “Administrator” from the user role drop down when creating the user, it has no effect. The user is added as a subscriber. Only seems to happen when selecting “Administrator” for their role. Other roles are added ok.

    Appreciate any light anyone can shed on this.

    This does not happen with us. Our main site is a dummy site and note used. I checked our site users and it is small. Our Network user list is large, a few thousand. Maybe a plugin is doing it. You should scan your list of plugins, maybe there is a specific setting… for example I believe User Role Editor plugin has that capability.
