I’ve not used it for that scenario, but I think it will work just fine as long as you protect the page, containing the shortcode, with some sort of membership plugin, like s2member. If you use the Overwrite settings, it will keep posting back to the same page. As long as a person is logged in and is authorized to few the page, there shouldn’t be any problem.
Now of course, getting protected wiki data to display using the shortcode is a bit of a trick. Additional coding against the MediaWiki API or web service will be required.
