Go to Dashboard -> Amazon Auto Links -> Manage Auto Insert and disable (turn off) listed auto-insert items.

It’s showing fine in the sidebar, and that is where I want it. I’ve tried fiddling with the on/off settings, but have not gotten the results I want.

I have Where to Enable set to off & have checked “single posts” and that still leaves me with ads in the post.

I have tried doing that. Whatever I do, all the same things end up re-checked–even though I click “save.”
Sounds like something is preventing you from saving options. I’d suspect a caching plugin that also caches admin pages. Try disabling other plugins to see if there is a plugin conflict.
It turned out that all I had to do was turn the “Manage Auto Inserts” off entirely. The ads still show in the sidebar but not in the posts.
Counter-intuitive as I had assumed that the “auto-insert” was for the site as a whole, but it worked!
