That’s extremely strange, Sometimes the zip file is not able to extract itself and we are going to improve this very soon by improving the plugin update process.
For now, you can just go to the account area and download a fresh copy and install it on your website.

I downloaded yesterday and now it says version 1.8 is out and it throws the same error. 1.8 is not the version in my premium download area. This is a pain and we have it on 3 sites. We have php7 and I don’t see any errors on our server when trying to update this.

I really apologize for the inconvenience. We just updated the file in the Accounts area. Please download it from https://accounts.ampforwp.com – That should fix the issue.
We will improve our update process very soon.

First you said the behavior was strange now you say you have to fix it to make it better. This is unacceptable for a premium paid product. I think it would be your priority to fix these kind of issues before anything else.
