preg_match_all(): Compilation failed during Scan

    PHP 8.4 with Defender 6.3.0 (but at least 6.2 as well).
    If I run a scan I get thousands of these in the log:

    PHP Warning: preg_match_all(): Compilation failed: digits missing after \x or in \x{} or \o{} or \N{U+} at offset 99 in /<path-to-site>/wp-content/plugins/wp-defender/src/behavior/scan/class-malware-quick-scan.php on line 63

    Scan finishes with:

    PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 0 seconds exceeded in /<path-to-site>/wp-content/plugins/wp-defender/src/behavior/scan/class-malware-quick-scan.php on line 63

    And the web ui pretends to be done without an issue.

    PS: actually it’s PHP 8.5

    In any case, it shouldn’t pretend to finish if it couldn’t.
    The “Scanned 1 month ago” didn’t update btw, it’s just that UI and the activity log that says: “Scan completed.”

    PPS: if I turn off the “Suspicious code” scan I at least get the other three back.

    Hello @wpobob ,

    I hope you are doing well, and I am sorry that you have faced this problem.

    The latest Defender version is 6.2.4. I am not sure how you got version 6.3.0.

    On my lab site, I checked with Defender version 6.2.4 and PHP 8.4. However, I couldn’t replicate the issue. There are no errors in my PHP Error logs. The scan completed without any errors. The Suspicious code issue type was enabled when I scanned the site.

    I checked but couldn’t find any similar issue reported. I suspect the issue is specific to your site. Please save your Defender configuration https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/defender/#save-configuration and reset Defender https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-plugins/defender/#reset-settings

    After that, please reinstall Defender version 6.2.4 and check if the issue persists.

    I have forwarded your issue to the Defender team. We will update you here when we receive an update from them.

    Please let us know if the scan works when the Suspicious code is enabled.

    I have an update for you.

    Our Defender team identified the issue, and they are working on it to release a fix in a future version. However, there is no ETA.

    The Defender team wants to know your PHP/PCRE versions. Please let us know.
