I’ve just recently noticed that there have been multiple “posts” that I haven’t made. As a matter of fact, I haven’t published a post of my own, ever. Thanks to a video, I was able to display more than the basic twenty posts per page, bulk select and delete them. How did they get there? Is there a way to prevent having to deal with several thousand posts that aren’t mine? I searched for a similar question before posting and didn’t find one. If this has been discussed and resolved already, please forgive me. My “pages” haven’t been affected (yet), just “posts.” Thanks in advance.

This is really rare, but there can be various reasons for it:

    • The simplest: You have installed a plugin or theme that creates posts. Either automatically or when installing the plugin (or theme). Check which ones you are using and whether any of them would do something like this, e.g., by importing external content into your project (e.g., demo content).
    • The more difficult possibility is that your project has been hacked. See: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/faq-my-site-was-hacked/ – you should definitely scan for malware. If your project is infected, delete it completely and restore it from a clean backup. If you don’t have a backup yourself, ask your host’s support team.
