• Hi guys,

I have a client who wishes to be able to choose which widgets appear in the sidebar on a “per post” basis.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how this might be achieved?

    Thanks,
    Iain

  • Multiple widget-capable areas in the sidebar that are loaded on a per page basis?

    Thanks for the reply, esmi.

She wishes to be able to pick the widgets that suit the content of a particular page, if that makes sense?

For example, if the article she was writing was about motorcycles, then the widgets and sidebar content may need to change to reflect that, but only on that single page.

Ordinarily, in such a case I’d probably try to produce a “motorcycle” template with a sidebar with unique name for that page. The problem is that there could be any number of these pages and future content is not predictable!

    Any suggestions appreciated!!!

I’m not sure there is any approach that could cope with a potentially infinite number of post types that are going to be defined on an ad hoc basis. Widgets. custom menus, custom post types – they all have to be initially defined which means that they’re a limited resource and can’t be arbitrarily re-defined.

Where does she think she’s going to pull this “relevant widget content” from?
