Possible to omit category selection?

    Hello and thanks for a great plugin.
    When subscription is confirmed the user is directed to a page giving him/her the option to select which categories’ posts he/she would like to receive notifications for. I’m working with a site that isn’t using categories, so this feature is redundant. Is it possible to omit the display of this facility?

    Hi jakemc,

    Thank you for giving Post Notif a go! The plugin does not currently give the admin the ability to turn off category selection. That is an interesting use case I hadn’t really considered. I am currently working on the next (overdue!) version of Post Notif and will add this to my list of potential enhancements.

    In the meantime, if your site does not have categories defined at all, I believe the preferences page should show your subscribers only the “All” option. Assuming this is not completely confusing to present on the page to your subscribers, this is a pseudo category that just tells Post Notif to send the subscriber any post you send notifications for. So, it should mechanically work, as far as allowing subscriptions. I hope this will work for you for now..

    The site I’m working ondoes have categories, but not all are relevant to blog posts, so it could be confusing. For the moment, I’ve commented the relevant lines in public/views/post-notif-public-display-sub-prefs.php. Would it be possible to wrap the categories functionality in an action hook (which can be removed in functions.php) in the forthcoming release?

    Hi Jake,

    Thanks for the additional explanation and suggestion. I’m pleased to hear you have a temporary solution that sounds like it gets you to where you need to be for now! I need to give the implementation details around re-working categories a bit of thought, and may well ask for some help testing, if you’re willing?

    As for feature requests – please do post them here in the support threads, so anyone interested can see what’s being discussed. Please create a new thread, though, to keep it separate from this particular topic (assuming it is something else entirely 🙂 ).
