• I’ve been using WordPress for years in a way that has nothing to do with posts and blogs in a traditional sense, and a glorified page builder is not what my client base needs or wants.

Gutenberg is a great upgrade for the post_content field but Gutenberg will not replace ACF fields such as Date Picker, Repeater, Relationship, Post Object, Select, etc.
And the Gutenberg editor should not take over the entire edit screen.

Current implementation of custom fields appears to be an afterthought and that needs to be fixed.

  • Gutenberg Custom Fields, being developed by one of the key Gutenberg team members, may interest you.

It still early days for this plugin, but I believe it’s seeking to explore how custom fields could operate in JS React environment.
