[Plugin: WP Mobile Detector] Adding Phone Links

I am editing the index.php page of the mojo-mobile template to include content I don’t want on my main website. One of the things I want is a linkable phone number. All attempts at using Call me! have failed on both iPhone and Android. They try to open up a new window. Why won’t this standard bit of code work?
