Usually this issue is a result of theme using styles that overwrite the plugin. Do you have a URL I can take a look at?

Im a beginner when it comes to WordPress so please bear with me.
My Gravatar is not aligning and also has a white box behind.

How are you getting the work around? I’m using the Esquire theme and think I’m experiencing the issues you’ve posted about something in my CSS placing a white box over the image, but I have yet to figure out what I need to change/remove. Your advice is appreciated: http://www.oic-books.com/blog/.
