• I have recently migrated to hosted WP option. I have WP 2.6 installed. I am trying to install the WordPress.com Stats plugin. I have an existing WP.com account and entered the same API key in the stats plugin. However I get the following error:

The API key “……….” belongs to the WordPress.com account of “manishmo”. If this is not your account, please re-enter your API key.

It doesn’t give my any other options. I have logged in WP hosted platform with a different login name.

Why might this be happening? Do I have to create a new wp.com account? Is a new one required for each plugin? Thanks in advance.

  • For me exact the same!

I installed newest stable WP on my dedicated linux server, no problem. Then i made an account here at wordpress, in order for getting my API key.

Went all fine, the API key works like a charm for Askimet, the Stats is not accepting the key. :(((((((((((((

I’m having the exact same problem!

I’m using a fresh WP installation, and I have just created a wp.com user in order to get the API key, that, as diggers said, it’s working fine with Akismet

    Any ideas?

For me also – the API key for my wordpress.com account works fine for Aksimet, but not for stats.

That’s due to a bug in Stats 1.3.1. Please upgrade to 1.3.2.

Andrew, thanks a lot!! Awesome, WordPress.com Stats is now WORKING with http://wordpress.org/latest.zip and accepting my API key.

    Btw.: Folks, watch out!!

PLEASE CHECK, that you have DISABLED Adblock Plus whilst using Firefox 3.0.1. Also check, that your browser is accepting ‘third party cookies’ – else login to your wordpress account will fail.

I’m using Firefox 3.0.1 and i had to follow those steps above ^^ (disable Adblock Plus & accept 3rd party cookies) + Stats 1.3.2 -> works like a charm!

Thank you very much for your awesome work, Andrew!!

    Wow! Thanks Diggers!

I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t log into my WordPress.com Stats from my Dashboard. It was because I had 3rd party cookies turned of in FireFox.

Instead of activating 3rd Party Cookies (which some will tell you is a bad thing), you can just (in the FireFox Preferences under Privacy tab) click on “Exceptions” in the Cookies section and enter “dashboard.wordpress.com” (without the quotes, of course).

This will allow you to accept 3rd party cookies from WordPress.com so that you can log into your WordPress.com Stats account.

Now I am happy to be able to see my stats again!
