• Have been trying to update Admin Menu Editor for some time now and keep getting an error message saying – An error occurred while updating Admin Menu Editor: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions. includes/.htaccess.old

I have spoken with our web hosting company and they advised me to change our php system from 5.5 to 5.6 which i have but nothing has changed.

I have basic knowledge of website design (have taken over an already built website) – please help in simple terms! 🙂

That’s odd, this plugin isn’t supposed to have an includes/.htaccess.old file. It sounds like someone might have copied or renamed the includes/.htaccess file. This could just be something that was done for troubleshooting purposes. However, if you don’t know who did it or why, it could also be a sign of a security breach that needs to be investigated.

In any case, deleting the file might fix the error.

Super basic knowledge so how do I find the file to delete it?

I am the only one who works on our website however we did move to a shared server a couple months ago, could this have anything to do with it?

Do you have FTP access to the site or some other way to browse the files, like a web control panel? Use that to navigate to the /wp-content/plugins/admin-menu-editor/includes directory. The file should be there.

Possibly, but it’s hard to say. I don’t think that simply moving to another server would somehow cause a file to be renamed. It seems like the kind of thing that would be done intentionally.
